The Psalmist said in the Book of Psalms 1:1 that, “Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stands in the path of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful.” When a man sits with gossipers and backbiters, he’s definitely sitting with the ungodly and when the adversary comes, whatever punishment is due to all of them, he’ll partake from it.
The Bible says in the Book of Proverbs 12:25 that, “Anxiety in the heart of man causes depression, but a good word makes it glad.” The Bible says again in the same Book of Proverbs 15:23 that, “A man has joy by the answer of his mouth, and a word spoken in due season, how good it is!” Every word that should come out of your mouth, as children of the Father is a word of encouragement.
Many of you, because of the spirit of sin in you, you have no good word coming out of your mouth. The kind of spirit that controls the tongue of a man matters a lot. Many of you have loose tongue. You cannot control your word. The Bible says in the Book of Colossians 4:6 that, “Let your speech always be with grace, seasoned with salt, that you may know how you ought to answer each one.”
The Bible says again in the Book of James 3:1-2 that, “My brethren, let not many of you become teachers, knowing that we shall receive a stricter judgement. For we all stumble in many things. If anyone does not stumble in word, he is a perfect man, able also to bridle the whole body.” The tongue, as little as it is can be the most dangerous part of human body. If not carefully controlled can put one into great danger.
The Master said in the Book of Luke 6:45 that, “A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart brings forth evil. For out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.” The tongue is little but is controlled by great power. Every reasoning, every thought comes from the heart. Therefore, the word of a man is rooted in his heart. If the Spirit of holiness controls him, every word that comes out of his mouth will be holy. But if the spirit of evil controls a man’s heart, it will be visible in his word. And as a Christian, no matter how holy you are, you must constantly watch over your heart. If you fail to watch over it, Satan can easily take advantage of you and hurt you through the word of your mouth.
My beloved, I urge you to always allow Holy Spirit to be in control of your tongue. If Holy Spirit is in control, you will not stumble easily. As a Christian, if you don’t feel it in your heart whenever a negative word comes out of your mouth, then you’re more or less dead. And if you fall into this category, Heaven is far from you. I pray for you this day that Holy Spirit will always guide your heart and tongue, so you will not stumble in this journey in Jesus name. Amen!
